    Signature series Custom Dyed & Stabilized Maple Burl wooden Low D Irish Whistle from TheIrishWhistle.com handcrafted by Nick Metcalf in Union Springs, NY.
    This is a stunning maple burl wooden low G. It is tunable and has a nice strong tone with a bit of chiff and woodiness to the sound. I have used this whistle on a couple of recordings for my next album and really love the tone.
    what is stabilized wood?
So getting this wood ready is a complicated process. First we start with completely dry wood which we place inside a vacuum chamber soaking in a special resin. The vacuum is left on for 24 hours to pull all the air out of the wood. Then we release the vacuum and let it soak in the resin for 24-48 hours. The wood is them removed from the chamber and baked for 3-6 hours on low heat to cure the resin. The result is very dense and hard wood that is nearly impervious to moisture and temperature changes.
    What is Burl Wood?
    Burl Wood is the rarest and most beautiful Wood. Burka form when there is some kind of distress to the Wood, and they are known for their swirly and beautiful grain. Maple curls are very beautiful as they have a combination of Birdseye maple and fiddle back maple with all kinds of other patterns and swirls to the wood. Some Burl Wood is more fragile but when I stabilize it with resin it comes out very durable and makes for some of the most beautiful wooden whistles ever.
    The signature series whistles are each individual works of art. Great attention to detail goes into making each one play and sound great and look and feel great as well.
    This Wooden Whistle has a silky smooth finish. The wood was sanded all the way to a 3000 grit sand paper. Every corner is silky smooth. The body has been finished inside and out with a combination polish of beeswax, Carnauba wax, and walnut oil to protect and polish the wood and maintain a chemical free food grade finish.
    You are getting a very unique, one of a kind, hand-made piece of playable art that has been very carefully created by a master craftsman.
