Description
This is an anamorphic projection lens attachment designed to be screwed to the front of a movie theater's normal projection lens, allowing the projection of CinemaScope motion pictures. This "Hypergonar" lens was designed by Henri Chretien, the inventor of the anamorphic lens for taking and projection of widescreen movies.Twentieth Century Fox bought the US rights to Chretien's lenses in the early 1950s and used the process under their trade name "CinemaScope." Mr Chretien retained the rights to the process inFrance and this lens was produced by his company, "S.T.O.P." - Society Technique Optique de Precision and the barrel is marked "Cinemascope Twentieth Century Fox." Hypergonar lenses with these marks are scarce.
Normal wear to mount, optics show some fungus, appropriate for the age of the lens (approx.1950s).
