Description
This is a nice, original, silver, single year type,
“One Dinar”
from the
“Principality”
of Serbia. It was struck in 1879 during the reign of King, then Prince, Milan I. He became King in 1882.
The Serbian Uprisings of 1804 - 1813 made Serbia into an
“autonomous Principality”
within the
“Ottoman Empire”
.
Its
“de facto”
independence ensued in 1867, following the expulsion of all Ottoman troops from the country. Its independence was recognized internationally in 1878, the year before this coin was struck, by the
“Treaty of Berlin”
. In 1882 the country was elevated to the status of Kingdom.
Weight: 4.95 Gram, 23 Millimeter, .835 Silver. Mintage: 800,000.

Prince, later King, Milan I. He ruled until he abdicated to his son in 1889.
Reverse:

The Coin:
A pleasant, original example, it saw some hands and earned the normal wear and marks. A nice silver gray color, it has not been cleaned. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
